The department of Mechanical Engg. In GIET has team of highly qualified and experienced faculties from the institutes of national repute. There are course oriented laborites where the students do experimental work leading to a better understanding of physical situations.
Besides, the department has also provided pro E and Ansys software in its labs. The mission of the Department is to establish itself as a centre of excellence in the field of Mechanical Engineering, through innovative teaching learning methods, intensive CAD/CAM short term programs, INSTITUTE INDUSTRY partnerships, and carrying on projects on Mechanical Engineering. The well equipped laboratories, dedicated, qualified and committed faculty and supporting staff form the core of the branch. The dept. of mechanical Engineering provides a good placement opportunities both inside of state and various states across india.

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. Mechanical engineers have to deal with concepts such as mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural analysis, fluid mechanics and many others. These concepts are applied in the process of designing state-of-the-art manufacturing units, different types of motor vehicles, aircraft and aerospace parts and a vast assortment of industrial machinery. Mechanical engineers also contribute in the development of various engines, power plant equipment, heating and cooling systems and other simple and complex machinery. Mechanical engineers not only design new mechanical systems but they are also responsible for testing, maintaining and manufacturing them. Mechanical engineers are focusing their attention towards new areas of research such as nanotechnology, development of composite materials, biomedical applications, environmental conservation, etc. The ever increasing scope of this particular job profile now requires professionals to get into financial and marketing aspects of product development and even into people and resource management. Mechanical Workshop
The main function of the workshop is to provide mechanical engineering support for teaching and research. Working closely with research staff and students, technicians help to prepare samples and design, develop and manufacture prototype experimental equipment from a wide range engineering materials for use in teaching and research.

The workshop is completely equipped modern machine shop with a wide range of machine tools. Capabilities include:

  2. Milling Machine
  3. Slotting Machine
  4. TIG welding
  5. Surface grinding of metals
  6. Drilling, cutting and sawing
  7. Sheet metal fabrication
There is also a student workshop area where, after attending a training course, students and researchers can use machine tools to produce basic parts and components under supervision allowing them to safely gain experience of workshop practices.
Heat Power Lab
Heat Power Laboratory is equipped with all the equipments related to Automobile Engines. It primarily deals with the study of valve timing diagram, modern carburetor, fuel injection system, different types of cooling systems and lubrication systems.
Material Testing Lab
Material testing and practice plays a vital part to the integrity of the material and the satisfaction of all parties concerned in the production of a sound product. Our Material testing lab is having the equipments like Universal testing machine, compression testing machine, hardness testing machine ,fatigue testing machine etc.
Automobile Engineering Lab
Students are trained to enhance their practical skills in this lab by doing experiments in the machines like 2-stroke engine,4-stroke engine and other heavy vehicle engines. Allied subjects such as Fundamentals of Computing, Basic Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, etc., are also included for the students which enable the students to:
  1. Have a thorough understanding of the advanced automotive systems
  2. Apply concepts of mechanical engineering science to solve problems
  3. Deal with complex engineering issues in systematic and a creative way
  4. Demonstrate the capability and skills to plan and execute a project
Hydraulic Machine Lab
This Lab is used for the study of the basics of fluid power. Areas of study are pressure viscosity, turbulence, flow, thermal properties and displacement. Hydraulic/pneumatic components such as pumps, actuators, valves accumulators, lines, directional controls, sealing devices servomechanisms, hydraulic fluids, and fluid containers are studied.
Hydraulics machine laboratory is equipped with the machine like Bernoulli’s apparatus, reciprocating pump test rig ,centrifugal pump and turbines like Kaplan, Francis and pelton wheel turbine which helps our students to solve the various problems related to hydraulics.
The multi talented students of our branch had designed and fascinated some very dynamic projects during their curriculum in final semester using the latest technology.
